NOC Team Lead

Role

 

The ideal candidate would be a seasoned network security professional with experience in the design, delivery and continuous improvement of multi-vendor technologies delivering CNS Group’s Managed Security Services (MSS) platform.

The role will ensure that all relevant standards to deliver Managed Security Services are meet and exceeded.

In addition, the role will manage NOC Engineering team and act as 3rd line specialist delivering solutions and resolving complex technical issues.

Understanding of security fundamentals, across multiple domains of security and a passion for security will be critical to the role. Along with suitable experience, a qualification such as CCNP or CCP would demonstrate this.

This role requires the role holder to attain UK SC Clearance.

Primary Responsibilities

 

To ensure the delivery of Managed Security NOC services according to design, operation and Service Level Agreements.

To maintain MSS client deployed platforms to ensure availability and compliance according to the client framework.

To identify capacity and performance requirements into MSS and Internal IT platforms to meet current and future Services demand.

To assist and when necessary lead on internal projects that impact or involve NOC technologies.

To advise and inform management, department heads and CNS group technical teams on technical issues and act as part of the decision-making process for services and technological improvement.

Manage and delivery Managed Services within budget and set Service Level Agreements.

Specific Responsibilities

 

The NOC Team Lead will be responsible for delivery of all CNS Group CORE Managed Service products.

Ensure delivery is in accordance with documented processes and compliant against internal policies and procedures including but not limited to, Document and data handling, change control. In addition, the NOC Team Lead will be responsible for the client advisories including remediation activities e.g. following internal penetration testing and vulnerability scans.

When required, the role will update operating procedures to reflect current working environment and conditions.

Accountable for ensuring platform availability at least meeting operational service requirements.

Responsible for accurate monitoring of assets in line with contract.

Being escalation point inside the NOC team and subject matter expert to the wider CNS community.

Manage internal NOC projects to plan, time and budget.

Ensure NOC Engineering team are appropriately skilled in current technologies and ensure a training program is in place to account for future technologies.

Build the necessary relationships inside and outside of CNS to meet current and future demands for platform requirements.

Manage 3rd party suppliers including service reviews recommendations.

When required delivery or comment on client facing reports and output.

Required Technical Knowledge

 

The technologies which the role holder will need to understand in sufficient detail to deliver an available support service:

  • Highly available enterprise core and perimeter networks (Routing & Switching) (Cisco, HP)
  • Network IPS/IDS (Cisco, Snort, Sourcefire)
  • Stateful firewalls (Cisco, Juniper, Checkpoint)
  • VPNs (Cisco, Juniper, OpenVPN S2S and RAVPNs)
  • NAC (Forescout, Cisco ISE)
  • 2FA (RSA, Secure Envoy)
  • AAA (Cisco ACS, Microsoft NPS)
  • PKI (Windows and Linux)
  • Asset monitoring tools (Solarwinds, CheckMK, Nagios)

     

Desired Technical Skills

 

  • A demonstrable hands-on ability in a discipline other than networking e.g. virtualisation, scripting or software development
  • Hands on system administration of server systems
    • Linux (Debian, Ubuntu)
    • Windows Server (2012, 2008)
    • Virtualisation Platforms (VMWare ESX, Docker)
  • Cloud technologies (MS Azure, MS Dynamics, MS Office 365, AWS)
  • A broad understanding of security technologies used in virtualised environments such as Cisco ASA, VMWare vCloud Networking & Security and CheckPoint VE
  • A broad understanding of current market offerings for one or more of IaaS, PaaS, SaaS, VPC/Hybrid Cloud services and the challenges faced with the migration of services to the cloud
  • Experience in hardening of common IT platforms (Windows, Linux, network kit) and be able to interpret the results of penetration tests.
  • A broad understanding of storage technologies such as NetApp/EMC VNX, Symetrix
  • Microsoft Windows technologies such as Active Directory and including GPO’s

Mandatory Non-Technical Skills

 

The candidate should also be SC cleared or be eligible to undertake the process immediately.

  • Excellent communication skills (both written and orally)
  • Proven track record of successful delivery of NOC managed services
  • An attention to detail (but not at the cost of pragmatism)
  • Providing support, oversight, knowledge sharing and assistance to others
  • Demonstrable experience of managing and motivating staff
  • Confident in their abilities and can work under pressure to tight deadlines

Desired Additional Qualifications

 

Exposure or experience in the following is considered highly desirable:

  • HMG IA policy and accreditation process
  • Protective Monitoring (GPG-13)

Success Criteria/ Objectives

 

  • Delivery of managed services to operational key performance indicators
  • Adherence to operational procedures
  • Resolution of logged incidents within SLA

Note: These success factors will be tied to the role holder’s performance related targets (see below) and will be reviewed and adjusted accordingly each quarter in line with the changing needs of the practice.
